Engineer 's day special ....

An Engineer is one who creates some thing with his creative ideas which is useful for man kind. The term Engineering depicts the science and art of planing, designing, creating and maintaining some thing useful to the community.

In this context a Civil Engineer is one whose profession is one who Plans, Designs, Prepare Drawings, Construct and Maintain Civil Engineering infrastructure which not only ensures safe and comfortable living of community but also  time and again prove to be the back bone of social and economical development of a country. 

The civil engineering infrastructure may be a simple house , or a sky scraper to a bridge , dam, or an airport , all serve the community in a way which no other engineering field can serve. In fact it is Civil Engineering field which gives shelter to all other branches of Engineering and hence can be called as " Mother of all branches " or an " Umbrella field ".....

The history of  Civil Engineering is the history of Civilization it self. In fact the term " Civil Engineering " is taken from the world Civilization. Hence the contribution of Civil Engineering field to the growth of Civilization is in valuable. 

If  trace back the history of Civil engineering ...it goes back to as early as " Harappa & Mohanjodaro" civilization where they used their own principles and methods of constructing houses and roads which amuses even today. So in that way the Civil Engineering field exist from the so called  Pre-historic days. 

 From those days to this day CIVIL ENGINEERING field has seen an unforeseen and un-unprecedented growth because of which we are witnessing wonder of the worlds like Taj mahal, Burja Kalifa, International airports and airways , Network of Railways , beautiful bridges , Dams etc.

 

In fact the contribution of Civil Engineering field to the overall social and economical growth of  a country  is invaluable. India being a agricultural dominated country ( which is main revenue earner apart from IT ) and natural rain being very untimely these days its the IRRIGATION INFRASTRUCTURE like Dams, Canals, etc had maintained the food production of the country astute. 

The transportation  infrastructure ( Roads, Railways, Airways and Waterways ) which is the back bone of  development of any country is again the major contribution of Civil Engineering Field.

Another important aspect of Civil Engineering field  is  Water supply and Sanitation infrastructure . While water supply infrastructure ensures safe and potable water supply to the community as well as Industries the Sanitation infrastructure ensures safe and scientific distribution of both liquid and solid waste from domestic and Industries to maintain healthy atmosphere.

Today ecological balance and global warming are the most important issues that are being discussed across the glob. The Civil Engineering plays a very important role here also by the construction of Eco-friendly  houses, gardens , landscapes which maintain the oxygen level in the atmosphere as well as temperature of environment. 

Another important aspect of Civil Engineering , especially in a developing country like India where around 67% of people live below poverty line in unhygienic atmosphere (Slums ) , the bigger challenge for a Civil Engineering fraternity is to provide a low cost , healthy and safe housing system for this community. Many researches are being carried out in this filed and many of them are being successfully implemented also...

Despite the rampant corruption and un-healthy practices the Civil Engineering field is serving the world in general nation in particular like none other field.

Advancement in Computer technology and Software technology  ( CAD, STAAD PRO , E-TAB , REVIT ARCHITECTURE etc  ) has made Civil Engineering field more interesting and Challenging. Today you can design and build any thing your mind can imagine and more important thing is you can experience it by creating a computerized model and have a walk through before even building it. 

That's why if we say.... " Civil Engineer' s "  are the Builders of the nation or " Architect of the nation "...there is no exaggeration in it.

And as the population of  the world increases the need for Civil Engineering field only increases. Though global recession has effected all other fields of Engineering Civil Engineering Field still stands tall and Important.  So we can say Civil Engineering field is an ever green field which should exist as long as man kind exist.

So I  feel proud of  being a Civil Engineer.......On this Engineers day... are you ?
